The Not So Obvious Reason Why Your Medium Story Didn’t Get Curated
Sometimes your story is never considered for curation at all.
As a writer, nothing is more satisfying than being read and being paid for your stories. Surely, Medium curation offers both but there are some subtle things that we often overlook. Of course, nobody knows how Medium curation works but we can make some educated guesses. There can be many reasons why a story does not get curated from just not following the guidelines to lack of content quality. But there is one hardly known reason: Medium’s own capacity.
According to Medium, the curation team reads thousands of stories every day and it is fairly obvious that only a handful of them gets curated. This means that the chances of your stories being curated are always slim. Even worse, your story may never be curated due to higher volumes of published stories. Yes, you read that right. There is no sure way to know whether your story will be curated or not. Higher volumes of published stories can hamper your chances to a definite zero. So, we should consider curation just like a bonus. It’s not everything. The chances of getting your story curated can change from being possible to impossible. In other words, it’s not just getting your story curated is uncertain, but the uncertainty itself is uncertain.
It's more than just okay when the odds are against you. It’s the norm. So, just focus on what can be done. Keep writing and hope for the best.
